Education & Training Opportunities

Family-to-Family is a free twelve week course offered by Nami Dupage for family members or caregivers who have someone coping with brain disorders (such as anxiety, depression, bipolar, schzophrenia, or OCD).

The instructors are trained facilitators who also have a friend, family member, or significant other who has a brain disorder.   Gain information, insight, understanding and empowerment.  This class is life changing!

NAMI Basics is a free, six week course for parents and caregivers who have a child 17 years or younger affected by a brain disorder. 

Diagnoses discussed in the class include: childhood onset of bipolar disorder, childhood onset of schizophrenia, depression, ADD, ADHD, anxiety disorders, OCD and eating disorders.

Trained family members, who have firsthand experience with the rewards and challenges of raising children with brain disorders, discuss the following topics: the biology of mental illness, getting an accurate diagnosis, types of therapy, communication, problem solving, crisis preparation and response, what to do about challenging behavior, impact on family members, recordkeeping, school, juvenile justice and mental health systems.

Parents who complete this course (formerly called "Visions for Tommorrow") describe this class as life changing.

Peer To Peer is a free, nine week, experiential education course (two hour sessions) on the topic of recovery for any person with a serious mental illness.  Courses are taught by teams of three trained “mentors”, or peer-teachers, who have firsthand experience in living well with mental illness.

Child to Child is a Program brought to you through the collaborative effort of National Alliance on Mental Illness Of Dupage County, Rainbows Organization, and National-Louis University.
