United States House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515
Dear Representative Smith,
I am writing urge you to oppose HR 211, which would result in massive funding cuts to mental health programs. As a family member of person living with mental illness I know how important mental health care can be. My daughter is a wonderful young woman with a bright future, but there was a time when I wasn’t sure she would have a future at all.
Diagnosed with Major Depression as a teenager, my daughter struggled for many years with her illness. It was a very difficult time for our family. I acknowledge that these struggles happen in many American households. One in seventeen people have a serious mental illness, so mental health programs are very important. Without proper treatment, many people with mental illness will continue to suffer. Untreated mental illness also results in more emergency room visits and encounters with the police.
Please oppose HR 211 and help millions of Americans living with mental illness. I thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Jane Q. Public
