Home Depot and Home Depot Foundation Provide
New Kitchen for NAMI DuPage Naperville Residence
Thanks to a major $20,000 donation of materials from our local Home Deport and Home Depot Foundation, and also many hours of Home Depot volunteer workers' time, NAMI DuPage's Naperville residence will soon have an entirely refurbished kitchen including new flooring, cabinets, countertops and appliances. The Naperville residence provides housing for eight individuals.
The Home Depot Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that was established in 2002 to further the community building goals of The Home Depot by providing additional resources to assist nonprofit organizations.
The mission of The Home Depot Foundation is simple...to improve homes and improve lives. Through partnership with local nonprofits and the volunteer efforts of Team Depot, the foundation focuses on repairing and refurbishing homes and facilities that serve disadvantaged families and individuals.
This entire project started when a couple of NAMI's long-time supporters and leaders, Ron and Betty Chaggaris, asked a local contractor at their home if he knew of any programs that would support a project such as a much-needed new kitchen at the Naperville home. The contractor, Rob Michael of RJM Build, knew of the Home Depot's charitable programs, and made the all-important initial introduction.
Since then, this has been a remarkable outpouring of energy and a labor of love as the Home Depot team led by Britney King, the NAMI team headed by Housing Committee Chairperson Sandra Shepard, and contractor Rob Michael and other local contractors came together to determine what was needed to completely equip a beautiful and efficient new kitchen, make all the material, furnishing and appliance selections, and plan the installation.
In just two days on March 8th and 9th, volunteers from Home Deport as well as from RJM Build and the other contractors listed below will complete the job, installing $20,000 in new furnishings and appliances, and giving our Naperville residents a beautiful new kitchen.
NAMI DuPage wants to express its very deep and lasting gratitude to the Home Depot Foundation, to our local Home Depot stores and their employees, to RJM Build and its fellow contractors, and to our Housing Committee Chair Sandy Shepard for their remarkable and selfless generosity to NAMI DuPage and to the residents of our Naperville residence. We are most fortunate to know you all!
