We are a grass-roots organization, and volunteers have always been the heart and soul of NAMI. Our volunteers make us who we are!

If you care about mental illness, one of the ways you can show your support for NAMI DuPage is to offer your time and energy as a volunteer.

Below are some of the current volunteer opportunitues are hoping to get some help with:

Education Registration Assistant
As individuals register for our classes, like Family-to-Family and Basics, we are looking for someone to track the registration for the Education Department. This position would be responsible to make sure the individuals enrolled for the class are contacted, via letter or phone to confirm their upcoming participation. This is especially useful for a family member that may have to wait 3-4 months before taking the class or those that might have scheduling conflicts and need to switch to a different location to better meet their needs.

Advertising NAMI DuPage Services/Programs
Our organization has multiple classes and support groups where individuals with mental illness or their family members can participate for FREE! However, the challenge is getting the word out so they can use our services. We hope a volunteer can help using our current contacts and ways of advertising along with maybe some new ones to help us accomplish better awareness in the community on what we have to offer.

HelpLine Volunteer
NAMI is looking for volunteers that have empathetic and caring qualities to answer phone calls coming in to our HelpLine. Often this is the first way someone comes into contact with NAMI making these volunteers invaluable. Individuals with mental illness or their family members are often good candidates for this opportunity due to their experiences. For those who do not have any experience with mental health NAMI DuPage does training for HelpLine volunteers. Because of the training and scheduling required we ask of anyone who volunteers for the HelpLine to be able to commit for at least 6 months.

Currently all of our positions are filled for the HelpLine. However, occasionally we temporarily need to fill spots when HelpLine volunteers are on unable to come in due to sickness or vacations. Please let me know if you would still in interested in temporarily filling in!
