Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital of Hoffman Estates is participating in the testing of investigational medications for the treatment of behavioral health conditions such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and bipolar disorder. We will be beginning new study trials for psychotic depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.  In some of these new upcoming trials, there will not be a placebo control.  Our outpatient depression and schizophrenia trials continue.

These trials provide a treatment option for many. Hospitalization, medical history and a physical, a psychiatric evaluation, case management, and study medication are provided at no cost. For selected studies, follow-up services will be available at no cost.

Criteria are:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Appropriate diagnosis for the investigational medications.
  • Medically stable.

Schizophrenia Gene Detection

The University of Chicago is doing genetic research on schizophrenia. The principal investigator, Pablo V. Gejman, is seeking families with two or more siblings who have experienced schizophrenia. Parents are also asked to participate. Research, and the subsequent results, will benefit future generations.

Participation requires two interviews and a blood sample. Participants will be paid $75 to cover their costs. The amount of time required is approximately four hours.

Bipolar Disorder Gene Detection

Volunteers are needed for genetic research on Bipolar Disorder.

The University of Chicago is seeking individuals with Bipolar Disorder and individuals and families with Bipolar Disorder to participate in our genetic study.

Participants will have a 2-4 hour diagnostic interview, provide a blood sample, provide family history, and complete self-report questionnaires. No travel is required and participants will be compensated $75.00 for their time.
