Opportunities to Participate in Research

To assist you in determining if you or a family member would like to participate, we have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions regarding research projects.

What is a clinical trial?
Graphic of medicationClinical trials are experiments that seek to improve our knowledge about prospective new treatments for patients. Before a new compound or drug can be marketed for universal use, it must be tested as completely as possible. The final testing phase is conducted on people in a highly structured, and moderated environment. This testing is called a clinical trial.

Who can participate in a trial?
Clinical trials are designed to answer specific questions. To do this, each trial has specific criteria for participation related to your age, health, medical history, medication, and previous treatment response. You must meet the specific requirements of the clinical trial in order to be an eligible volunteer.

What is a clinical trial participation like?

Individuals participating in a clinical trial generally receive evaluations and exceptional care from some of the country's most respected medical practitioners. As clinical trial participants, individuals receive frequent monitoring. Since clinical trials are frequently conducted in a protected setting, access to physicians and to medical support is immediately available in case of an adverse incident.

Participation in a clinical trial allows an individual to contribute to valuable medical research where the patient's opinions and outcomes influence product development. In some clinical trials, participants are compensated for their time and inconvenience.
